CJDS Board of Trustees Hires New Head of School

Dear Columbus Jewish Day School Community,

The Columbus Jewish Day School (CJDS) Board of Trustees is pleased to share an update regarding the future leadership of the school.

Acting upon the recommendation of the CJDS Head of School Search Committee, following an in-depth search, the CJDS Board of Trustees has unanimously and enthusiastically voted to hire, Rabbi Tali Zelkowicz, PhD, as the next Head of School.

Rabbi Zelkowicz will become the next CJDS Head of School this summer when she and her family relocate to Columbus from Los Angeles. Rabbi Zelkowicz and her husband, Benny, have a daughter, Gavi, an incoming kindergarten student, and a son, Asher.

Rabbi Zelkowicz is currently a professor of Jewish education at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles. She has many years of rabbinic, academic, and Jewish leadership experience. In her recent visit to Columbus, Rabbi Zelkowicz’s passion, vision, intellect and, people skills shone through as a great compliment to her extremely impressive resume. The ability for CJDS to engage Rabbi Zelkowicz as the next Head of School places CJDS at the forefront of an exciting renaissance in Jewish education.

Rabbi Elka Abrahamson, President of The Wexner Foundation, former CJDS Board member, and alumni parent writes, “We know Tali well, she is an alumna of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship Program. Her career exemplifies the stellar leadership we seek in our fellows. Because of our trust in her unique talent, The Wexner Foundation, together with Abigail and Leslie Wexner, are investing in her leadership. We are increasing our support of CJDS and engaging in a renewed partnership to move the school forward in strength and vision. Your new Head of School is a special leader, and a superstar in the field. We are excited that she will be shaping CJDS, as well as contributing to a dynamic Columbus Jewish community.” Rabbi Abrahamson’s personal and professional commitment to CJDS has been unwavering, and the CJDS Board of Trustees are immensely appreciative of her tireless work on the school’s behalf.

The CJDS Board of Trustees, also expresses its appreciation to Ruth Rubin, Chair of the Head of School Search Committee and its membership for its tireless work, and to the amazing faculty and staff who have guided the school through this transitional year with skill, grace, and love. The CJDS Board of Trustees expresses a deep gratitude to The Wexner Foundation and Abigail and Leslie Wexner. While CJDS has been incredibly fortunate to have their support since its founding, today marks a new beginning for the school with an unprecedented, increased level of support and confidence in the long term future of the school.

Sincerely,
Columbus Jewish Day School Board of Trustees
