Twelve members of Pizmon sang their way into the hearts of students and families last week during their visit to Columbus Jewish Day School. The Jewish a cappella group, comprised of college students from Columbia University, Barnard College, and the Jewish Theological Seminary, introduced new tunes into our musical lexicon as they worked with first through sixth graders. New melodies learned for familiar titles included “ Hineh Ma Tov,” “Hear O Israel” and “Mi Kamohah.”
The day’s workshops concluded with a joyful and extra melodic Kabbalat Shabbat, led by the kindergarten class. Pizmon singers treated the school to a concert which included choreographed performances by our own students of the new tunes they had just learned. A special treat was having Columbus Jewish Day School alumni, Maya Zinkow back in the school as she is one of the members of Pizmon. Maya is currently a sophomore at Barnard College.
